Amigos. 

Abajo les envio nuevamente  una muy interesante oportunidad para una beca
de investigación con el profesor Kirk Smith en el area de salud ambiental
relacionada con el uso de combustibles domesticos  en países en desarrollo.
El trabajo se realizara en la Universidad de California, Berkeley, con
contactos en India, China y otros países. El investigador ira conducir una
analices de politicas  basada en evaluaciones anteriores sobre daños a la
salud y gases de invernadero derivados de emisiones de combustibles y
cocinas domesticas. Ademas el investigador ira  asistir el diseño e
implementación  de nuevos campos de estudios en los países en desarrollo y
la organización de por lo menos una conferencia internacional relacionada.

Candidatos con conocimiento del Español son altamente recomendados, dado el
interes de desarrollar este campo de estudio hacia latinoamerica.

Research Fellow Position: Household Fuels

A 18-month research position with possible extension is available at the
School of Public Health, University of California Berkeley (UCB), to work
on health and environmental aspects of household fuels in developing
countries.  Working with colleagues at UCB and in India, China, and
elsewhere, the researcher will conduct policy analyses based on previous
measurements of health-damaging and greenhouse-gas pollutants from a range
of household stoves and fuels.  In addition, the researcher will assist in
the design and implementation of new field studies in these and other
developing countries and the organization of one or more international
conferences.

Requirements:

A Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant field.
Knowledge in at least two of the following topics as demonstrated through
training and/or research:

Health risk assessment
Health impacts of air pollution
Small-scale combustion technology
Greenhouse-gas science
International climate negotiations
Economics of health impacts, climate change, and/or household fuels

A speaking and reading knowledge of Spanish is highly desirable, but not
required.  The position will involve international travel and short periods
in simple conditions in rural areas.
 
The candidate will be requested to provide evidence of skills in speaking
and writing, as well as having worked successfully in inter-cultural
settings. Developing-country research experience is highly desirable.

Depending on mutual interests, it may be possible to arrange association
for the holder of this position with the UCB Energy and Resources Group,
the International Energy Studies Group of Lawrence Berkeley National Lab,
and/or the Institute for Global Health of UCB and the University of
California, San Francisco.
