Dry anaerobic digestion

Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice and was wondering if you can help me?

I'm working on the anaerobic fermentation of MSW using a dry batch system.
I'm having a problem with falling biogas levels. The pH of the system is
stable (around 7.1-7.4) and so it's not the 'usual' build up of acids.

I believe that it may possibly be due either:

1. A build up of NH3 in the system or
2. Salt toxicity due to low moisture levels

With this in mind I am looking for some laboratory methods (tried and
tested) to test for both of these parameters (and TKN). The samples are very
'thick' so I guess some type of extraction is called for. Has anyone had
experience of such systems or know a suitable procedure/s.

I look forward to your replies,

Tina :0)
