DIG-L: W.V. Digester

Editor

Dear Editor:
Please allow me to offer a final open letter to Chairman Conrad and his
Pendleton County Development Athority (PCEDA) as well as financial backers
of the proposed anaerobic digestion project.

I attended the November 9 public informational meeting at which the PCEDA
voted to pursue Dennis Crabtree's proposed anaerobic digester project.Since
this action so well demonstrated the Authority's keen business sense and
deep concern for the betterment of the County as a whole, I'm sure you will
ne anxious to pursue the following possibility.

I've developed a perpetual motion machine which can also generate vast
quanities of "clean" energy without any inputs whatsoever--the process is of
course proprietary--but you can certainly trust me on this. Perhaps
Pendleton Co. would be an ideal place to produce these items--we could call
them--widgets, for the moment. To satisfy silly government requirements, we
could do a request for proposals for a feasibility study on the project.
Since most of the silly folks experienced in this field will think this is
an absurd idea, they will not bother to respond. So I'll make up a
consultancy company and produce the study-for only a few $hundred thousand.
There could, of course, be a few phases. We could have a WVU economist show
that, with only the numbers in the study, this would be a great investment.
Of course no independently derived numbers or opinions would be considered.
With proper shmooze, I'm sure we'll be able to find some clever, far-sighted
government officals to help with the funding from all of the extra funds
contributed gladly by taxpayers.

I look forward to your enthusiastic response.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Hamburg, CEO, Widgets Unlimited Inc.A 50 gazillion$/year
corporation.
Rt.1, Box 51
Orma, WV 25268

PS. We should learn from the ridiculous sighting problems the PCEDA has had
with the ignorant rifraff over Crabtess's digester. Let's not tell anyone
else about this yet. First, we'll purchase the land. Then, if anyone
objects--especially like deep-pocket "citizens" group such as CAD--we can
claim it's a taking of our unlimited private property rights and sue. That
way we'll get million$ anyway--and we can work the same scam in other states
and countries.

PPS. While I haven't thought much about environmental,human-health and other
social cost$ of widgets, I figure they're not very relevant to us high
rollers. We'll accumulate enough $s from just this project yo isolate
ourselves and our own residents and land any ill effects. We can pay a very
few of the riffraff to keep the multitude away. I can't hardly wait to get
an impenerable dome around my land.

PPPS. There's great personal gain to be had by taking my unreferenced and
unquestioned word on all this--it's only taxpayers money anyway, so what the
hell. All it will take to build the facility in Pendleton Co. is a totally
closed mind to any questioning or suggestions of other options. You've
already demonstrated this capability/skill in regards to the proposed
digester so it should be no problem with prepetual motion.
