DIG-L: methane rating, landfill gas to engines

Dear All:

In order to introduce a fuel into a engine (gas-engine) to produce electricity, the methane rating or index (similar to octane rating in gasoline) has to be more than 70. The fact is that we have an accurate composition of our gas and we do not know if its methane rating is suitable (avoiding "knock" problems) to be used with the engine.

So, please anyone know how to calculate the methane rating from composition analysis. Is there any experimental formula and/or any co-relation?.

Anyhelp will be welcomed.

Thanks
Jesús Alonso
