Re: DIG-L:

Dear Sanna:

Answers to your questions could fill a huge anaerobic digester! This is vast
subject.
First of all, we have to define "solid waste" - - usually, "solid waste" does
not imply (at least in USA) that there is organic content (a requisite for
aerobic and anaerobic digestion).
I am therefore assuming that we are talking about the digestive process by
which organic matter, such as can be found in animal husbandry and to a
lesser degree in waste water treatment plants, is decomposed by bacterial
action.
A great way to start becoming familiar with the whole subject is to get a
copy of the "Handbook of Biogas Utilization" prepared by Environmental
Treatment Systems, Inc. for the US Department of Energy (can be purchased
from General Bioenery, Inc., e-mail: bwatkins@bioenergyupdate.com. This
excellent publication will lead you through fundamentals and give you a long
and interesting list of other sources of information on the subject.

Closer to your country, you should check with the Danish Ministry of Energy
which is at the forefront of developing energy from organic matter digestion
(there are other countries also active in that technology, of course)

Good luck!
