Re: GAS-L: Allied Signal Microturbine

Dear Phillip,
Honeywell bought Allied Signal and made it under their name. They made
quite a few of them at their plant here in Albuquerque at the old Levi
Strauss plant. I met with the VP in charge of the division prior to them
opening the plant here. It was a very interesting conversation.
They were not able to either sell the systems or convince GE to buy the
company Honeywell, and simply shut the doors. Most of the parts are sitting
at a metals scrap yard a mile south of my office. Large crates of solenoids,
brand new 1400˚F SS heat exchangers, starters, frames, housings, electrical
controls, hoses, thousands of hoses, and so on. The scrapyard said that for
two weeks they were completely busy unloading semi-load after semi-load of
components from them. It is a gold mine for me.
I bought a 75 Kw natural gas engine generator set for $19,000. The
Honeywell system was about $80,000 for the same output. Go Figure! The last
word that I heard or read was that they made about 150 and had 75 in
inventory when they closed their doors. The City I think lost a lot of bond
money on the plant closing.
Anyhow, more to say, but that is the primary story. Any questions?

Sincerely,
Leland T. Taylor
