DIG-L: Food waste A.D.

I'm drumming up support for a food waste biogas conversion project in New
York City. From my initial research, I figure that it will take a lot of
backing from specialists and professionals in the field of Anaerobic
Digestion to even get this thing past all the skeptics. Add to that the
complexities of waste hauling in New York City and it's quite a daunting
task. 

However, I remain optimistic and that is largely due to the precedent
programs that are operating successfully. I am particularly inspired by the
food waste A.D. Program in Kobe, Japan and a co digestion operation set up
at the Hyperion Waste water treatment plant with food waste from Los Angeles
int. airport.

While I am more interested in an operation like the one underway in Kobe,

possibility of a pilot program with one of the waste water treatment plants
in NYC. 

Initially, I'll be concentrating on restaurant foodwaste as the feedstock.
My hope is that once a system is in place, an integrated citywide program
will include foodwaste from industrial, institutional and household sources.
Ideally, recaptured biogas would help offset some of the costs of such a
project. 

I'm researching this project under the auspices of The Earth Pledge
Foundation. We have a long history of sustainable cuisine, sustainable
architecture, and sustainable development programs.

Obviously, this project is still in the research phase. My expertise is in
the restaurant business, so I'm pushing my learning curve and gathering as
much info as I can on A.D. and biogas recapture technology.

I would welcome any advice, input or interest in this project. I'm convinced
there's a lot you can do with over 440,000 tons a year of NY city's food
waste. According to Kompogas stats, that could equal 44,733,012 cubic meters
of natural gas a year.
