Re: DIG-L: Food waste A.D.

Ian,

I was most encouraged by your New York initiative.

Greenfinch is a small UK organisation which specialises in biogas technology
an we are currently carrying out R&D into the anaerobic digestion of food
waste. This is source separated household and restaurant kitchen waste with
no garden waste, and is characterised by a high moisture content of more
than 77%.

Our project involves 2 identical and parallel digesters each recycling food
waste from 80 households, one operating at 35 deg C and the other at 55 deg
C. We are working in partnership with the University of Southampton to
investigate the relative performance of the 2 digesters with respect to
energy balance and pathogen destruction. The size of the digesters is small
enough to be able to carry out original research work and large enough to
get real results from real households.

We would be very happy to become involved in your initiative.

We have a web site, at present very simple, at www.greenfinch.co.uk

Best wishes

Michael Chesshire
