DIG-L: slurry density

Is the density of fresh slurry the same as for that of water, i.e. 1000 kg / m^3, or is it slightly less?

I have calculated a value of 500 kg /m^3 , taken from cornell composting website, but this seems too low. Would it be sensible to use a value in between these two?

I need this value to calculate the VS in fresh pig manure, but most books use percentages instead of densities.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as always,
