RE: DIG-L: Storm waste cleanup by digestion??

RE: poultry mortalities

I am afraid that the effort and energy to grind and handle large volumes of poultry mortalities will greatly exceed the value of the biogas produced. The most economical method is windrow composting, it is fast, efficient and low cost. Check the web, using those key words for alot of "how-to" information.

Good luck.

Subject: DIG-L: Storm waste cleanup by digestion??

We have just had 11 days of rain and countless floodings. Ezpecially
hardhit have been the chicken farmers.
One farmer lost about 80000 chickens. If even half grown, thats 80000
lbs of waste meat. Has anyone ever digested something like this?

I am thinking what could have been done to dispose of this cadaver in a
manner that is swift and sound. A strong and suitable digester bag could
be used to deal with these waste situations no? I know meat digestion
presents problems of its own.. what would be suitable mixes to bring C-N
ratios in balance?
Grass, straw, sawdust?

Just brainstormin'.......
