DIG-L: Energy from internal heating of horse manure

Title: Energy from internal heating of horse manure

I got a projectproposal about energy from internal heating (Dutch: 'broei') in horsemanure. The exploiter wants to collect manure on a pile and extract heat from it. Besides many practical questions I have some more theoretical questions I would like to ask the list.

(1). This is digestion, but also is it **anearobic** digestion?
(2). How much energy can you theoretically extract this way from the manure (compared to classic A.D. where you put the manure in a closed tank and digest for 15-50 days?)

(3). Which gasses does a pile of heating manure emit? Greenhousegasses??
(4). Why is internal heating an exothermic process while classic A.D. is an endothermic process?
(5). Has anyone of you ever seen a project like this and where can I find more about that project?

Thanks for replying.
