G'day All,

Volatile Solids and BOD/COD destruction is related to methane
production, so a measurement of any of these parameters would give a
good idea of methane potential. It would also pay to check C:N ratio and
look for possible inhibitors like ammonium, heavy metals and
antibiotics. Of course if you have a fairly usual subsrate there should
be reports in the literature anyway, its when you try to do something
odd you need to be extra careful.

The only way to be sure is to do some trial digester runs and if they
are not up to scratch find out why - things are not THAT simple in
practice.
