Those of you considering projects in Africa to help the energy needs of small populations might be interested in the following:

African Rural Energy Enterprise Development (AREED)

The United Nations Environment Programme has initiated an African Rural Energy Enterprise Development (AREED) initiative.

AREED seeks to develop new sustainable energy enterprises that use clean, efficient, and renewable energy technologies to meet the energy needs of under-served populations, thereby reducing the environmental and health consequences of existing energy use patterns.
