There's a solar lawnmower that works all by itself.
You define the perimeter of your yard with a buried wire. Then you plop
the thing down in the grass and turn it on. It wanders around cutting the
grass and bouncing off the boundary.
It comes with an alarm, which it needs because it's numbingly expensive.
Real Goods used to sell it, I think. Cool toy.
I have something similar, but it doesn't cut the grass as evenly as I
like, so I use it only to get very tall grass down to manageable level.
It mulches beautifully and it's even self-fueling. And it costs a lot
less than the solar mower. I do have to tether or fence it, though. It's
called a sheep. <g>
