I wonder what kind of "grease" you have been talking about! The kind we
use on aluminum and copper connections in the electrical field is highly
conductive, and is designed for use in electrical connections for
increased connectivity, and corrosion protection. Brand-name is "DE-OX"
or there are some others on the market. Petroleum jelly (ie, vaseline) is
a poor conductor, and while it will reduce corrosion, would be a poor
choice in a crimp connection.
However, as far as pull strength goes, a proessionally crimped connection
is far superior to a hammer-crimped connection.
