Sorry, I ment to give a more detail response earlier, but I had to go to =
a meeting. Here's the scoop (as I remember it, I haven't read up on this =
in about 10 years):
          Most people think of solder as a condutive form of Hot-Melt glue.  =
It's not. Solder actually melts the metals being soldered and forms an =
alloy with them. So instead of having two pieces of copper glued =
together by solder (a Lead/Tin alloy) you end up with two pieces of =
copper welded together with a Copper/Lead/Tin alloy.=20
        This is why you need to make sure that you have a good mechanical =
connection when soldering (ie: don't try to bridge gaps with solder on =
anything that is going to be handling a lot of current).  This is also =
why cold solder joints don't work,  you have to get the connection hot =
enough for the alloy to form.
        If you submit this Copper/Lead/Tin alloy to high pressure it eventually =
breaks down into it's composite metals.  I don't know why,  I didn't =
understand the physics of it 10 years ago, but since I read about the =
same reaction in 3 different books written by different authors I =
accepted it.
