I did some crude resistance tests on hex-crimped connections with,
and without solder, about a year ago. The resistance was about the same. I
didn't test connections that were only soldered.
Someone on the list at that time sited a Navy study that showed that
properly crimped connections were more reliable than soldered connections or
crimped AND soldered connections.
Bob Batson will rent you a hex-crimp tool for something like $15 per
week plus shipping. You can make a set of my $21 hex crimpers if you are the
do-it-yourself type. Many EV clubs have a club-owned set of crimpers or have
members willing to loan a pair.
