Thanks for your responses to my posted memo on "choking kids". I am
speaking with some knowledge of he Philadelphia area. We had 23 days of
inversions in 1996 when ozone and other contaminants rose to well above
average conditions. Not all of them produced difficult breathing
conditions for aged and children; some did, which I got from the local
press and from talking to pulmonologists at area hospitals.
My purpose in raising this question is to get a significant dialogue
going on the air quality question with significant technical detail as
you gentlemen started.
I am doing investigation and policy thinking in the urban planning area.
I need more information and views on the air quality question to
underpin any policy matters that I may discuss in Philadelphia
Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). The auto miles travelled in
this region is increasing almost 10% per year; the emissions therefrom
increases in proportion. So we anticipate increasing health problems.
The EPA has this region on the non-complying list for the Clean Air
Act. We are mandated to clean up the air quality in our region. This
is a complex question with many sources affecting the end results: that
is a given. But on the EV LISTSERV I seek to have the many people who
attend this list post the info they may be privy to on this question.
I will seek more detailed info and post what I find out. More detail
from you gentlemen and from others on the EV LISTSERV would be welcome.
Lets keep this dialogue on the issues not on personal innuendos.
