On a related topic to this, a friend who works as a copier technician,
rigged up some sort of old copier machine sensor to his adaptor plate and
stuck a small mirror to the flywheel for the sensor to measure RPMs.  It's
in place but he hasn't fully wired it to his new controller, which he is
still building.
