New Zivan Battery Management System

Hi, there is a new Zivan Battery Management System coming to the market.

My friend Greg McCrea, Electric Conversions, Sacramento CA,
<greg_mccrea@macnexus.org> phoned last week to ask me to post a notice on
the EV List looking for two volunteers to beta test at newly released Zivan
Battery Management System for EVs. My rather unfriendly response was 'Hell
NO, I will beta test the first one on my 20 Optima YTs with my 120 VDC
pack and I am sure Don McGrath would like to do the same with his 22 Optima
YTs on his 132 VDC system.

So that is what Don and I will be doing when the units arrive in March.
The advantage of the Zivan over the BADCHEQ is not only in price, expected
to about 1/5 the cost but the that the AGM batteries are equalized both on
charge and discharge.

The device is now in production for nominal voltage of 12V and 55 Ahr
capacity Pb-acid batteries. It will manage up to 32 individual batteries,
it detects the weakest and recharge them.

Specs:
Minimum voltage input 80 V nominal
Max voltage input 540 V nominal
Max number of battteries 32,
Internal DC-DC converts 75 W at 5A Max,
Red LED shows polarity reversal,
Current sensor to 300 A,
Baud rate RS-232 9600 Baud,
Dimensions 11 13/16 x 10 5/8 x 4 inches.

Hey, this will fit where my Rudman regs are now and I already have leads
that will handle 5 -10 A going to each buddy pair.

It transmits V, A, and the unit number to a PC via RS-232 making
maintenance more simple by providing data which can be converted into
graphs showing immediately the imbalance of the cells. It reads each
battery at regular intervals, 30 minutes in charge phase, 5 or 10 minute
during the discharge phase. If a weak battery is noted during discharge
that one is recharged through an insulated DC-DC converter.

I wish I had not sold my second lap top, a Mac PB 170 three months ago. I
could have a dedicated unit on board for displaying the output.

I put this last to see how many read all the way though. I don't think
this offer will last for those who only read the digest.

Greg wants higher voltage test subject such as192V etc. in Sacramento to
the north San Francisco Bay area, He is ordering extra unit of 144V
besides Bob's and Don's.

Cheers, Bob Wing
