I saw the show which ran about 11 minutes. The transcript at=20

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/past_programs.html

was an accurate presentation of the report and yes Marv did an
excellent job.

Also while at that same site you might want to see if they have
the PBS newshour program of today 1/30/98 which had a report on
the rejection by some of the Northeast states of the NLEV program.

=46or those of you unfamiliar with the NLEV (National Low Emission
Vehicle) program, this was an attempt by the auto industry to
scuttle the Northeast states program of ZEV (Zero Emmision Vehicle).
The Northeast states had not bowed to political pressure to drop
the ZEV mandate. New York, I believe, is still on record to require
that 2% of vehicles sold there in 1998 be ZEV's.

The auto companies said they would ONLY produce a NLEV if the
Northeast states dropped their mandates and set a deadline date of
1/30/98 to drop them. According to the Newshour, N.Y. Mass., VT.,
and Maine refused to drop their mandates.

http://www.calstart.org/news/newsnotes/

Reports that three states, N.Y., Mass. and Vermont, had rejected
the auto companies offer. The Newshour reported that the auto
companies have until Feb 17th to decide if they will still go ahead
with their NLEV program.

As usual the so called commercial news (porno) programs had no news
of this. I assume they decided not to run this story for the same
reason they dropped the EV report during the Kyoto news coverage.
