INDIANAPOLIS--(AutomotiveWire)--Jan. 30, 1998--Allison Transmission
sold and shipped nearly 140,000 medium- and heavy-duty commercial
automatic transmissions in 1997 -- the best year in the company's
history -- generating sales revenues of more than $1 billion.

The development of two hybrid-electric drive systems also took place
in 1997 as the company focuses on meeting needs for the next
millennium. The systems continue Allison Transmission's commitment to
improve fuel economy and acceleration as well as reduce emissions,
noise and cost.
