Re: scooter
Jim,
I did a Honda Elite a couple years ago. Also did two Yamaha CA-50's
with the exact same design. All of these small step-through scooters
lend themselves to some of the most effecient, cheap, and simple EV's
going. The ones I did all had top speeds between 30 and 38 mph with a
range up to 40 miles and cost less than $2,000 total. I used 2.5 hp
motors, 275 amp Curtis controllers, and el-cheapo Everready batteries
from Costco. If you want to keep the floor area clear, they can easily
be converted to a trike because the whold motor/wheel assembly comes off
with just a couple bolts leaving the entire rear section clear.
The first one I build was in 1992 and all are still running. One was
sold to a guy in S. California, another in Cabo San Lucas, and the third
one I still have. The one I kept is a trike and has been regular
transportation for about four years now. I now have it torn apart to
completely to refine and re-engineer the thing to offer a kit.
Mine ran at 24 and 36 volts. If you are going to use 48 volts, I would
suggest 36-48 option with a minimum 275 amp controller such as the
Curtis 1204-401. Let me know how your project progresses or if I can
help out with parts or ideas.
Best wishes,
Steve Van Ronk
