I'm Bas Ravestein, a student at the Delft University of Technology.
I'm studying Transportation Technology.

I'm graduating on the folowing subject:
The dutch government has planned underground transportation from =
Schiphol Airport to the flower auction in Aalsmeer and a railterminal in =
Hoofddorp.
The transport will be performed by automated guided electric vehicles.
The handling of the goods will be on ground-level terminals.

I'm just diving in to the subject of electric vehicles as you will =
imagine.
I am interested to here the points of view of members of this list on =
the power supply and kind of electric motor to use.
The specifications of the vehicle are:
* a repeated cycle of running 10 km in a tunnel at 20 km/h attached to a =
power cable followed by travelling 800 meters by battery on a =
terminalarea at 10 km/h.
* the battery should be able to fully recharge on the 10 km =
tunneltravel.
I'm thinking of the following solution:
* a AC power cable
* an AC 3 phase-motor
* a nickel-cadmium battery (fast recharge)
