        It's not our gas that's subsidized.  It's out roads.  In most
other western countries, gas taxes are used to pay for road
construction and maintenance.  The idea is that the people who use them
more should pay more.  Bigger vehicles cause more wear on the road and
coincidentally tend to use more fuel.  In this country, I can take the
subway to work every day, and I'm still paying to keep up the
interstate on the other end of the country.  Now THAT's a subsidy!
