I've towed my Honda thousands of miles with the trans in 4th gear, four
wheels on the ground, using a towbar. From CA to OH to PA to OH to IN
to OH. No trans or motor problems (yet).

I did once accidentally tow it for about 10 miles at 50 mph with the trans
in second gear. I expected to find pieces of commutator spattered around
under the hood, but somehow the old Prestolite survived.

Some folks recommend using a homemade jig or at least some rope to tie
the shift lever so it won't slip out of top gear. Not a bad idea.
