Curtis controller trouble

Hi. I am new to this list. I am trying to help a friend repair
his EV. He has a Curtis 1231C controller which appears to
be burned out. The manual has a set of diagnostics. It fails
the potbox test, which comes after the connectivity test but
before the controller function test. The voltagereadings across
the potbox terminals are incorrect and they do not vary sufficiently
when the potbox resistance is varied. I called Curtis, and they
told me that it was probably one of the voltage divider resistors
and that it would cost $560 to repair. This is outrageous.
I noticed some earlier posts about repairing Curtis controllers.
Is this the way to go, or is there some better avenue? Thanks
for any advice. Eric
