Ouch, I can't read discussions about three pole and single pole ACgenerators and
keep quiet. There ain't no such things. Generators
will have two poles or some multiple of two poles because an AC
generator must have alternating north and south poles to generate
alternating current. With two poles the frequency and rotational
speed are the same; 400 revs per second (24000 per minute) will
produce 400 cycles per second or 400 Hertz. With more than two
poles more than one cycle per revolution will be generated. Thus:

2 poles 400 Hz at 24000 rpm 60 Hz at 3600 rpm
4 poles 400 Hz at 12000 rpm 60 Hz at 1800 rpm
6 poles 400 Hz at 8000 rpm 60 Hz at 1200 rpm
8 poles 400 Hz at 6000 rpm 60 Hz at 900 rpm
etc., etc.
