Look up "Luciole" in the archives. At EVS-14, several of us EV Listers had
the chance to drive the Japanese Luciole, including myself, Bill Dube' and
John Wayland. The Luciole was a marvelous little piece of engineering, and
a genuine pocket rocket. The car was only wide enough to seat one person in
the front seat and one in the back seat. The two drive motors were in-wheel
motors (in the rear wheels) and were about 100 hp each!
The Luciole was funded and developed by The National Institute for
Evvironmental Studies. For more information, see http://www.www.nies.go.jp
or email Kiyomoto Kawakami at kiyo@nies.go.jp.
A few years ago, a brochure from the Japan Electric Vehicle Association
included a picture and description of the Honda In-Wheel type Electric Motor
DDW-2015. It is a brushless DC motor 135 mm diameter, 100 rpm, 150 W, 24V,
with a rated torque of 15 N.m.
