Re: Plan repository
I think one of the most pressing issues is charge control. Considering the
increasing sophistication of EVs, it's surprising that chargers are only
gradually getting smarter -- and the smart ones are expensive.
To put in my 2 cents' worth on this issue (warning: I am not an EE), I
think that one of the most promising charge control methods was invented a
good 20 years ago for the Lestronic chargers. It uses DV/DT rather than
absolute battery voltage to determine state of charge. Absolute voltage
varies with temperature and battery age, but the slope of voltage rise on
charge is (as I understand it) a pretty stable indicator of SOC.
In any case, I would hope to see an archive such as this with a "Radio-
Electronics Magazine" approach. I don't mean necessarily a complete
article with PC board layout, parts sources and all the rest (though that
would be nice!). I mean enough information in each post that
experimenters/hobbyists without formal theory training (enough
understanding to follow a schematic, but not necessarily enough to know the
pitfalls of stuff like lead dress, transient suppression, and such without
being warned) could build the gadget with a reasonable expectation of success.
I think this is a super idea, but I understand that maybe you want to
restrict it to being an info-interchange between the techies. But I hope
you'll consider making it a bit more inclusive. Thanks!
