New (possibly naive) Idea

I've been mulling around different configurations of batteries, motors,
controllers, etc. trying to find something that would fit my goals. I
would like to have performance, yet have the opportunity to drive longer
distances. I've thought of trailers with extra batteries, loading all
available space with batteries, and many others so outlandish that I
won't admit to dreaming them up. I woke-up last night with an idea. (A
sign that EVs are taking over my mind?!?) This might be one idea to
indlude in the outlandish catagory. You guys KINDLY tell me what you
think.

I thought, "Wouldn't it be nice if I could flip a switch and have a car
with high performace turn into a more efficient car to go long
distances?"

The car would have a 144V pack: either 24x6V, 18x8V, or 12x12V depending
on how many batteries fit.

When I flip my "switch,"
 I would have a 2-string 72V pack: each 12x6V, 9x6V, or 6x12V.

The two string setup should give me a car that goes the distance. Right?

I would need a controller and motor that operates at both 144V and 72V.

---Please let me know if I'm wrong about the specs on the these items.
Supplier are giving mixed info.

Is this workable? All the batteries should be identical at all times
(theoretically), so paralle/serial should matter.

Thanks in advance for you help,
