I got a good used Prestolite for $800, adapter in work (estimate $400). Car
was already in hand.

Just what I paid for an unused "used" Curtis 1221B.

I paid $225 for a DC to DC converter (20 amp). I got a used Russco SC
18-120 SO for $600. I do plan on using a 10 pack of Optima yellow tops
though (planning a finished weight of 1500 to 1600lbs).
