Bingo!  Every AC motor that I've seen on a car was custon designed for a
car.
Every DC motor that I've seen on a car was designed for something else.  If
a motor
monufacturer were to design a DC motor for a car with a single gear, you
wouldn't neet the tranny.  It would be interesting to see the problems they
encounter.
