Re: Another EV is born
Hello to All,
I've had the pleasure to meet Steve and visit with him in his awesome
log cabin home (that he built himself) in the Colorado
mountains....beautiful! Steve's workmanship and pride in doing a job
well is something that I really appreciate. With Pikes Peak in his
backyard, Steve's commute is perhaps the most demanding one I know of
for an EV. His real world data with a heavy pack of Optimas doing what
they do best (high current one hour discharge) will be one something to
keep track of.
Although he's no longer with us, I'm sure Dick Finley would be
proud to see that his idea for the Red Beastie has influenced others, as
it has with Steve. The Beastie has a 47% battery to vehicle weight ratio
of flooded cells, where Steve's Mighty Max (love that name) has an even
better 49% ratio with current-loving Optimas. I've made the 45 mile run
from Colorado Springs up to Steve's log cabin retreat in the mountains
and have seen first hand the tough continuous hill climb this EV has to
negotiate....it will be interesting to see how it does!
I'll be getting a chance to take a fun ride with Steve in his EV
this summer when I take the Zombie to race at Bandimere....I can't wait!
Congratulations, Steve!
See Ya.............John Wayland
