Re: Brazed, Soldered or What?

Hi,
I replaced a terminal on a 7" Prest0lite once. I got a new terminal from a
motor rebuild shop,
use silver solder left over from another project. The terminal has a cross
slot on the inside end,
in which the motor copper can be crimped, but this serves only to hold the
wire in place while
it is being silver soldered. It takes higher temperature to melt silver
solder. A propane torch
will work in some cases, but an oxy-act. torch produces more heat. Be sure
to protect the
surrounding insulation. I used an old piece off towel soaked in water,
("The Time Keeper"
gets really upset when I use the new ones).
Someone may have a betterway to protect the insulation, because I burned
off about 3/8"
next to the solder joint.
The Baker fork lift motor that I reversed rotation in, had 3/8 brass bolts
with over sized but thin
heads. The motor lead had an extra heavy terminal end like piece of copper
silver soldered on,
for the bolt to pass through.
