I don't remember such a claim, on this listserv or elsewhere.  Where did 
you read or hear this?

That claim has been made for NiCads, but several posts explained the true 
reasons for what appears to be memory effect, so there's some doubt that 
it really exists even in NiCads.

Nevertheless, several years ago there was a brief period of interest in 
using lead batteries in laptop computers because they weren't subject to 
the "memory effect" that NiCads supposedly were.

I've never heard anyone claim that lead batteries had a memory effect.
