EV-100 Charger/Profile

The next cards to be discussed are the CHARGER/(BATTERY-FUELCELL).
This will be difficult, so we may be better off selecting the simplest
configuration, to get it
going.

Each battery type will require a Charger Card that will accommodate all
the needs of this type
of battery, including all profiles established for best, longest life,
battery service. There
may well be 5 or 10 cards, each for flooded lead acid batteries, all
doing the same thing, but
with different charge profiles. Time will decide which is best.

There is argument about using 2 cards from the outset. My judgment is
that the CHARGER/PROFILER
CARD must fit both the vehicle EV-100 bus and the *EXTERNAL* charger
EV-100 bus (nothing more
than a connector, with a few connections in use). This will allow for
these same cards to be
used both on board the vehicle and in the charger on the floor. NO
effort will be made to
ATTACH to a card in a stand alone charger, for the purpose of recording
data, this is to be
done ONLY IN A EV-100 EQUIPPED VEHICLE, since you need the other cards
on the bus to complete
this feature.

WE STRONGLY OPPOSE ANY EFFORT TO USE DIFFERENT CHARGER/PROFILER CARDS
FOR THE CHARGER AND THE
VEHICLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By way of the second card, the CHARGER CONTROL CARD, exclusively on the
EV-100 SYSTEM BUS in
the Vehicle, we will be able to establish some degree of safety for the
vehicle and it's
occupants (docked at a charge station), as well as control the charging
process and provide for
data recording about the charge process and the batteries as a pack and
individually.

The Charger Control Card needs to meet the requirements for *safety* in
the vehicle. Now, I
know most of you have a charger in a metal box on the wall or floor, but
this is dangerous and
will continue to need to be improved as an issue. Why! There is no
monitoring of the conditions
of the charger or battery pack, overheating, long term charginging etc.

Consider the need for proper profile charge cards for EACH of the
following Battery types:

NiMH
NiCad
Flooded lead acid
Gel Cell

Then we have fuel cells:

FC-5

Mating the CHARGER CONTROL CARD to work with the CHARGER/PROFILER CARDS,
all done on the EV-100
SYSTEM BUS, will be achieved with much effort and it will be our first
step up in some time.

Bill Neill.
