OEVA show
Well, we had set pretty high goals for last weekend's OEVA show in
Portland--we wanted to have our car finished (minus 16 batteries and the
2nd motor) with a body and a trailing generator so we could drive
non-stop from Spokane to Portland (7 hours). Instead, we ripped out most
of the original chassis and made a whole new front suspension and
battery box chassis. Friday morning the car was far from driveable. We
arrived in Portland about 7:00 pm, just in time to dine with John
Wayland and Marko.
The show was great. We met lots of people who we had previously only
known on the list. Many ideas were shared and friendships developed. We
got to ride in and drive cars that we'd previously only seen or heard
about. What a great group of people. We can't wait to get our commuter
car prototype to the next event for all to drive.
When everyone was getting ready for the Rocky Butte ascent, Bryan and I
started walking as we were EVless and needed the exercise after all of
Patty's wonderful meals at King's Omelets. We beat everybody up there by
at least 45 minutes. We took a ride down in Red Beastie with Jason at
the helm checking out the possible trajectories that John might have
traveled with his Zappy, looking for John's silhouette holes in fences
and hedges. Fortunately we didn't find a trace till we got back and were
happy to find him safe and sound although a bit pale.
Sunday we pulled a loaner 9" ADC motor out of John's "Baby Blue. This is
to hold us over while we wait for 2 Warfield 11" Warp II motors with
interpoles to be built for us. We also loaded up 16 more Optima YT blems
that brings us to a total of 28. The Subaru was sagging a bit in the
rear with the load, but the trip home was uneventful, as John wasn't
with us.
We look forward to next show.
