Ferroresonant Transformer (Again)

Thanks everyone for all the responses to my post about adjusting
the output of a ferro transformer. A number of you suggested that
I put a buck/boost transformer on the secondary instead of the
primary, but the Lester uses a full-wave rectifier with a center
tap. Is there a way I can hook a buck/boost transformer to the
secondary configured this way? I tried it on a small transformer
and found that if you put it on the center tap lead you get bucking
on one leg of the secondary and boost on the other. I have a separate
charge controller so the original Lester control board is out of
the picture. I know I'm trying to make this thing do something
that was never intended, and don't want to wreck it in the process.
The worst that can happen is to replace a couple of weak batteries,
I'm just cheap and looking for a simple hack I could do to get
around spending money right now. A new pack is in my future,
just not my *immediate* future. Thanks...
