OT: Oil Companies and Alternate Power Sources

This Oil companies are something I follow quite a bit and pay very much
attention to. But I'm going to make this really short, and leave out names
becuase I am at work and all my tapes books and articles are at home.

I think that oil companies making solar power accomplishes two major things
for them.
Good PR
Goverment Grants, Subsidies, Tax Breaks.

Having something up and running to make a profit on is decades in the
future, and probably on their list, but it's not one of the top advantages
of doing the alternate power thing. For example right now they got oil that
they can pump from 3rd world countries for around 1$ a barrel, and they are
finding more and more oil all the time. Yes it is finite and yes most of the
places they are finding are not as plentiful or as easy to get to but then
again, many countries don't have liability laws or environmental laws so
they can just skip all that costly equipment which makes it "environmentall
safe" to pull the oil up out of the well.
