Re: Lovejoy coupling

Russell,
The resiliant (rubber or polyurethane) spyders for lovejoy couplings are for
low horsepower applications and can tolerate more misalignment than the high
horsepower metal (usually brass) spyders. I think that you could probably
look up the specs for your coupler in a Grainger catalog. Usually one buys a
Lovejoy as three seperate pieces, the motor end, the load end, and a spyder
suitable to the load. I would imagine that for an EV, you would probably have
to use a metal spyder. I tried resiliant on a 5.0 Hp log ICE log splitter app
once and beat the spyder out in minutes. While I am sure that the firing
strokes of the IC engine had something to do with it, after consulting the
catalog, I changed to a metal one, and its still splitting logs, although its
noisier than the poly one it replaced. Heres a hyperlink ><A

spyders here. Hope this helps-Regards David Chapman.
