Back from Woodburn
What a blast !
It was nice to see some of the fastest EV machines around gathered at
one place Woodburn. For me I liked watching the Viper cars get beat. The
roar of their ICE engines against the quiet instance of torque power and
sudden acceleration of the electrified Maniac Maza or Jim Ludikers
"Circuit Breaker" dragster was no compare.
To see these ICE cars get left in the dust was very satisfying.
The record breaking times may even have been better, I know that Bill
Dube with his "KillaCycle" experienced lots of slipping and he had to
back off the accelerator in order to regain his traction, this was very
apparent as you could see the back tire slide back and fourth side to
side and then catch the pavement again and zoom faster. The track just
was just to slippery.
A most impressive engineering feat and beautifully crafted machine was
Bob Boyd's Megawatt Monster to see its 6 Prestolite motors linked
together in mechanical harmony was diffidently a favorite among the
crowd. As it moved up to the starting line you could tell this one had a
wonderful sound, its 6 motors purring along in a sort of shooshing
sound and only to have experienced transmission failure upon the inrush
of torque via its 6 motors and thousands of amps via the 3 Trex
controllers. Some of the team crew theorize that the gears may have
needed the slack taken up, kind of pre stressed so that no play in the
gears would occur. The team felt the did not have enough time and parts
to even direct couple the drive line, but next time you can bet they
will have a spare trans. and recovery options available.
The weather was great for us all as the next day when I departed a
good rain made for a wet get away. I wonder what kind of coverage will
surface somewhere out there in the world as we had 3 camera crews from
Germany and with some luck between my home video footage and anybody
else maybe something could be edited together of decent quality.
Woodburn in all was a nice place for the event.
Cheers,
