80 JET Motor (longish)

Well, it has been a few weeks since I last posted about the JET Motor, and
now I finally have some good news.

RECAP: The clutch needed replacing and I wanted to have the motor looked at.
When I got the motor back from the shop, the shaft was too long, and it
was causing the flywheel to rub on the back of the trany bell housing. As a
temporary fix, since I needed to use the car, I was able to use some washers
to space the motor back a bit and prevent the rubbing.

CURRENTLY: After some prodding from Mike Chancey, I took the motor back to
the shop, and they were able to press the adapter onto the shaft a little
farther. That combined with resurfacing the flywheel, and sliver of the
transmission that was worn off by the flywheel on the first try, gave me
enough clearance so that the spacers were no longer needed, and everything
works in its original configuration.

I also replaced some bolts that were missing which held the adapter plate to
the transmission. I now know why they were missing. They are a PAIN to get
to. While most of you were at Woodburn waiting for the next pair of EV
dragsters to come down the line, I was underneath the JET hugging the
motor, trying to tighten these bolts which were at the top of the
motor/tranny. I hope I don't have to take this thing apart again!

Now, after having the JET in various states of disassembly over the last 4
MONTHS, it is running smoother than ever! Still have some kinks to work out
with the throttle and some other odds and ends, but the motor and clutch
problems are behind me.

I want to thank everyone on the list that offered suggestions. Without the
support of the EVDL, I wouldn't be celebrating this success right now! In
fact, I probably would not even have an EV! THANKS EVERYONE!!!!
