Diodes (was Re: Can anyone ID this part?)

You want a fast diode for a freewheeling diode. Ideally you want a
schottky diode, but they can be hard to find in high voltages. If you can't
find a suitable schottky you can probably get away with a "Fast Recovery
Diode" or an "Ultra Fast Recovery Diode". You can also parallel diodes to
get the desired current rating, if you do I think they need to be matched
diodes (like from the same lot).

C and H sales carries a lot of neat surplus silicon.

Currently they have a couple low voltage schottkies and things like a
600V 400A IGBT module for $89.50

You can even shop online. I think they have a $20 minimum order.

P.S. they also carry surplus DC motors up to 4 or 5 hp.
