Pot box taper

I have found that I can avoid the curtis lurch by pressing my pot box pedal
very slowly. It doesn't seem to work as well in reverse(lower gear, partly
because the motion of the car pushes my foot down harder) any way of
prolonging the low signal. I push the pedal a long way before I get any
response. I was thinking about a momentary button with a resistor to add
to the pot box circuit. Is that too dangerous or is there some way of
customizing the taper or through. Looking for less pedal movement to start
and longer at the begining ohm(low)level. Thanks.... Larry Lurching in
reverse.
