<< Bad news folks! You can no longer buy a Ford Ranger EV. And not only
that, the NiMH version is not going to be available at all. I went to our
local Ford dealer and actually tried to get one. Lease only, Lead/Acid,
$349 per month or $11,000 prepay for a 3 year lease. Plus you will have
to wait 'till February to get one. >>
I will have to investigate as we have not recieved any communication
from Ford telling us that the Rangers were not available to sell or that the
NIMH option was not going to be produced (granted you might have to wait
awhile) but it will be a shorter wait than waiting for an EV1 which cannot
even be had outside CA. AZ. at present.
I applaud your effort at actually going to the dealer to get one
however, Perhaps if more people had done so Nation Wide there would be Ranger
EV's all over the place and Ford would have to put on an Extra shift to keep
up with orders. Lets face it they will not get built if they do not sell. The
problem I had here in Minnesota (closest Ranger EV dealer in Iowa) was he was
not willing to get the nessesary infrastucture in place to sell one or two
Ranger EV's even though he/they are an authorized dealer. They are sitting on
the orders until they get enough to make it profitable to actually order and
deliver the units. If you are really interested in getting one however,
contact me either on or off list and I may be able to get you on the inside
track at Ford Motor Co. to get some real answers. E.V. Rookie
