10/30/1999 - Two EV1 Drivers to Take Coast-to-Coast EV Trip
Santa Monica, Calif. - In what will be the longest trip to date for
the General Motors EV1 electric car, two lessees of the car will be
driving cross-country on a 19-day, 3,030-mile jaunt from Santa Monica,
California to Orlando, Florida. Greg Hanssen and ''CE'' Raum intend to
post updates from their Nov. 4-23 trip on the ''EV Odyssey'' Web site
( http://www.evodyssey.com ). They are timing their trip to coincide
with a number of electric vehicle events, including a Nov. 5 meeting
of the Arizona EV1 Owners Club and the opening day of the North
American Electric Vehicle and Infrastructure Conference & Exposition
in Atlanta, Georgia on Nov. 17. As part of the trip, the two intend to
map the major routes of the United States that have charging stations
for EVs, should anyone care to repeat their feat. Other long-distance
EV drives by members of the EV1 Club include a trip from Los Angeles
to Troy, Michigan (News Notes 5/6 & 6/3/98), and trips from Los
Angeles to Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and San Francisco.
