Most people are using a DC rated relay to run the heater. The relay is operated from a standard switch in the dash which in turn is usually just energized when the heater blower motor is powered up.
This is to prevent the heater element from being energized with no airflow across it.
We stock special 60V - 108 volt ceramic heating elements as the standard 120 volt units will not give you much noticeable heat at 88 volts.
