Toyota Unveils Electric Car With Compact Charging System 11/29/1999
Dow Jones International News (Copyright (c) 1999, Dow Jones & Company,

TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- Toyota Motor Corp., Japan's
leading automaker, Monday unveiled the RAV4L V EV, an electric vehicle
boasting the world's smallest inductive charging system, for the
domestic market.
The newly-developed inductive charging system, which doesn't require
an onboard charger, has been under joint development by Toyota and
General Motors Corp. of the U.S. since June 1998 with the aim of
establishing a global standard. The system is based on GM's "Magne
Charge" inductive charging technology.
Toyota and GM worked jointly to decrease the size and weight of the
system's paddles and charge ports leading to unprecedented compactness
for an electric vehicle charging system.
The RAV4L V EV retails for between Y4.57 million and Y4.95 million.
