RE: my very heavy and lossy EV LandCruiser idea... :-)
Lee,
Thanks! Looks a lot better than my calcs... Wonder where I slipped
up the numbers? Probably 'cause I was thinking to run the motor at rated
voltage, silly me... :-) Anyways, looking at your amp draw calcs makes me
think I could probably go with flooded batteries instead of YT's, though of
a small to medium size instead of the big suckers. Has there been any work
in the realm of using two different types of battery packs for different
operation modes? Say, have a pack of something like Bolder TMF's and a
higher-voltage pack of floodeds, use the Bolders whenever you want to kick
the pants off of a 'Vette off the line and use the floodeds for all other
operation modes, as well as "dump charging" of the Bolder pack a few times
to allow repeat matches. Could also connect the Bolder pack such that it
recieves all regen juice from braking for the initial re-charge. Since this
is a street vehicle, won't need to carry too big a Bolder pack, since I'd
only want it to get to 60 or 70 so on that pack. Driving a 'Cruiser at
75-80mph is pretty hair-raising as it is... :-) Is your spreadsheet
available online? Might want to do some poking and prodding with other
motors, batteries, weights etc.

I used the aerodynamics of a 4x8 sheet of plywood sideways. I assumed
3000 lbs stripped, plus 300 lbs for motor and adapter, and 24 Optima
D750 batteries. That gives a 288v pack, so for expediency I assumed two
Advanced DC 6.7" L91 motors. They have about the right HP and voltage
when used in series.
